The Pennsylvania History Coalition Honoring People with Disability (PHCHPD) represents organizations and stakeholders who recognize the important role history plays in decision making affecting the lives of people with disability, their families and communities. The PHCHPD is looking to increase society's understanding about the historic and heroic journey of Pennsylvanians with disability.
Coalition projects include building archives from the ground up at organizations such as Elwyn, Pennhust Memorial & Preservation Alliance, Vineland, and the Arc of PA. These archives contain historically significant documents and items relating to the history of disability in Pennsylvania, the United States, and across the world.
The Coalition recently completed a full-length feature documentary chronicling the history of disability in Pennsylvania in conjunction with witf Public Media. The documentary premiers Monday, March 28, 2016 at the Second Statewide Disability History Conference.
